Chili Bread

This was a forerunner of the tamale

1 cup flour
2 cups cornmeal
3/4 cup milk or water
1 tsp salt
1 tsp Mexican oregano
2 Tbsp chili powder
1/8 tsp garlic powder
8 pieces boiled beef, finger size
1 tsp shortening
8 clean corn husks

Mix all ingredients except meat & corn husks
Spread thick dough on corn husks
Add cooked meat
Wrap & steam for 30 min
It can also be baked at 400 deg F for 20 min
